Vision 2010 Construction Update

This is a significant year for our Vision 2010 construction projects, and you undoubtedly have noticed the changes taking place in the Acute Care Pavilion near the Emergency Department. AAMC is making major moves in the ACP to prepare for demolition of the private car drop-off/ pick-up area at the Emergency Room to make way for the ACP South Tower construction.

  • The Emergency Room Bed/Board has been moved to the visiting clergy office, next to the Meditation Center.
  • Visiting clergy, whose office formerly was located next to the Meditation Center, now share office space with the Auxiliary, behind the main Information Desk.
  • The Meditation Center has been relocated to the waiting area across from the ACP Gift Shop.
  • The NIH Federal Credit Union automatic teller machine (ATM) has been moved to the Clatanoff Pavilion across from the visitor elevators.
  • Doctors Emergency Service, PA, has moved to the lower level of the ACP, near askAAMC and Telecommunications.

When Whiting-Turner begins dismantling the current Emergency Room entrance in April, the face of the hospital’s main entrance area will change, too.

  • By the end of March, the new main entrance to the Emergency Room will be next to the main entrance of the Acute Care Pavilion. A new, temporary double door entrance will be built where the current garden and fountain are located (the garden fountain will be placed in storage). This new entrance will lead directly into the new waiting room area.
  • The current ACP entrance will remain as is. This shared entry area will remain until January 2011, when construction of the new ACP South and new Emergency Room is opened.

Special thanks to all of the AAMC staff who have worked so hard and tirelessly to help implement the huge ED transition.
