Introducing Alec

Have you met Alec? If not, you will in the coming months!

Alec is the name of Anne Arundel Medical Center’s new electronic medical record system, technology that will allow AAMC to automate all areas of clinical processes within the medical center, including physician order entry; physician and nursing documentation; pharmacy, radiology and surgery; and labor and delivery integration. The platform can be installed in physician practices, giving doctors convenient, full access to all patient records and allowing them to deliver the most advanced care.

The hospital will contract with Epic Systems, of Madison, Wisconsin, to develop, implement, and launch Alec, a key component of the AAMC Vision 2010 Strategic Plan. The project is scheduled to go live in 2009.

You will hear and learn much more about Alec in coming months, as it is phased in. The name Alec, which has roots in the English and Greek languages, means helper and defender of mankind. Alec is meant to be friendly, easy to remember and recognizable, while inspiring promise and reliability.
