If you are 59 years old or older or have kidney disease (other than stones) or diabetes then a BUN and Creatinine blood test must be performed and the results reviewed by your referring physician before the CT exam. If you had a normal BUN and Creatinine drawn within the last three months, then those results are acceptable unless those results were abnormal in which case the blood test should be repeated.
Patients in chronic renal failure undergoing regular dialysis will not need BUN/Creatinine. They will need to be dialyzed within 24 hours of CT with IV contrast CT examinations.
If you have a history of prior allergic reaction to iodinated contrast (x-ray dye), a history of prior anaphylaxis, or a history of asthma that requires daily medication, you should receive our standard pre-medication - you can get a referral for this medication from any AADI site.
