YourScan — You're In Control!

You're in control. YourScan.

It’s a fact. Baby Boomers are transforming the way healthcare is provided in this country. This generation is significantly more health conscious and spends billions of dollars every year on fitness, vitamins, supplements and alternative medicines to stay ahead of the aging process.

Given the fact that heart disease, stroke, emphysema and cancers of the lung and colon are among the leading causes of death for men and women, the Boomers are out to beat the odds. They know early detection and a head start on prevention can dramatically improve their prospects for a longer, healthier life than previous generations.

Today, screening centers offer the insights and answers that health-conscious consumers are seeking. The comprehensive, painless, non-invasive examinations scan the body’s internal organs, including the heart, lungs, colon as well as the whole body. The premise is simple: find cancer, heart disease or polyps at their earliest stages, and the problem can be contained, reversed or even cured. For healthy patients, the knowledge that nothing serious is wrong translates into peace of mind.

While screening centers seem to be showing up everywhere, not all of them are created equal. Some use outdated equipment. Others provide inadequate patient care. Thus, the idea of YourScan came into being.

YourScan’s mission is to provide health-conscious consumers with immediate access to early detection programs using the most current technology available while maintaining the high-quality standards of the Anne Arundel Health System and Annapolis Radiology Associates.

“We saw a definite need in this community. Screening centers are all over Maryland, but none has the experience and reputation of a medical center behind it or the latest CT technology working for it,” said David Klingler, General Manager for YourScan.

The Technology Makes the Difference

Of all the CT scanners being used today, very few use the advanced multi-slice technology. The 4-channel multi-slice models are the most popular. The more channels (detection rows), the better the accuracy. The state-of-the-art equipment is General Electric’s LightSpeed 16 CT scanner, which produces incredibly fast 32-slice-per-second images. It allows the YourScan team to see finite details, enabling faster, more accurate detection and diagnosis. For patients, the benefits of technology are better image resolutions and acquisition speed, thus reducing the exam time.

People Who Care Make the Process Painless

This technology is combined with the expertise and quality of Anne Arundel Health System and Annapolis Radiology Associates. Scans of the heart, lungs and colon are provided in a peaceful setting. In the privacy of a comfortably furnished exam room, a medical history and risk factor assessment is completed prior to the scan.

After the scan, which takes less than 10 minutes, the patient has a personal consultation with the radiologist to discuss his or her results. If there are any areas of concern, the radiologist will contact the patient’s physician or arrange an appropriate referral, if requested by the patient.

Each patient receives a brief written report before leaving. A detailed typed report and CD-ROM of the scan is mailed within three days. No physician order is needed for any scans. Payment for services is by credit card, check or cash, and insurance plans are not accepted. YourScan is now taking appointments. Call 443-481-3200 for more information.

YourScan’s mission is to provide health-conscious consumers with immediate access to early detection programs utilizing the most current technology available. •
