Winter 2008 CTA Available at Anne Arundel Diagnostics![]() Anne Arundel Diagnostics (AAD) has added Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) to its stable of available imaging studies for patients whose physicians need detailed pictures of blood vessels throughout the body. These detailed images help radiologists diagnose disease in vital organs, such as the kidneys, lungs, and heart. AAD will perform CTA studies on a new dual-source 64-slice CT scanner—the fastest on the market— installed in AAD’s Sajak Pavilion location in the fall 2007. “Slices” are images joined to form a comprehensive cross-sectional view of the body. More slices taken at once mean faster scan times. According to George J. Odell, M.D., an AAD radiologist who sub-specializes in vascular and interventional studies, this is vital for some patients. “In the case of CTA studies looking at coronary arteries, faster scan times are important,” said Dr. Odell. “Because of the rapid motion of the heart, faster scans allow us to avoid slowing the heart down with medication.” Before CTA technology, the only way to evaluate blood vessels was with conventional invasive angiography. “We would place a catheter into an artery and inject contrast,” he said. “With the new technology available at AAD, scans are completed in seconds and there are no catheters needed. If we need contrast, we can use an IV.” For more information on AAD or to schedule an appointment, call 1-888-909-XRAY (9729) or visit www.AnneArundelDiagnostics.com. |
