Spring 2008 Your Gift Touches LivesFuture Leaders Give to Pediatric Department![]() Ellie Nielsen presents a donation from the Captain Jack Society to AAMC Foundation Chief Development Officer and Senior Vice President Lisa Hillman. The membera of the Captain John Ward Veazey (Captain Jack Society), Children of the American Revolution, recently made a donation to the AAMC Pediatric Department to benefit the many children who need health care. Ellie Nielsen, president of the local chapter of the Captain Jack Society, said, “At each meeting, we send a basket around to collect pennies for a good cause. Because our society is based in Annapolis, I felt we should donate the money locally. We chose the AAMC Pediatric Department because my cousin, Andrew, was in the NICU as a baby. I was amazed how such a tiny little thing like him could survive. I am very proud to donate money to benefit organizations like AAMC, which save people like Andrew every day,” Ellie said. Ellie’s mom, Sue Nielsen, added, “The goal of the society is not only teach them American history, but to help children gain leadership and public speaking experience. We think philanthropy is a leadership quality all children should learn at an early age.” Thank you Captain Jack Society for your support! It Is Easy to Want to Give!![]() Donations to the AAMC Breast Center from Michael Hollins help purchase wigs and prostheses and fund survivor retreats. Mr. Hollins is shown here with breast surgeons Zandra Cheng, M.D., left, and Lorraine Tafra, M.D., who also is director of the AAMC Breast Center. Beause of Michael Hollins’S generous donations to the AAMC Breast Center, patients have been able to purchase wigs and prostheses and attend survivor retreats. “Just about everyone knows someone who has had cancer or has been affected by cancer,” Mr. Hollins said. “If you can identify with those who suffer from the disease, it’s easier to understand and to want to give.” His view is that such “little things make the burden of having cancer a lot less heavy.” From Mr. Hollins’s perspective, cancer patients aren’t the only ones who benefit. “A high comes from giving to others. You get when you give.” Fund for AAMC DonationsFor more information about how you can help AAMC continue to be the most technologically advanced hospital in the region, providing the most compassionate care, please call the AAMC Foundation at 443-481-4747.
