AAMC’s Hands On Health for Youngsters

Students at Hands On Health event

Mackenzie Dillon, Macey Brenner and Julia Brown (l-r), kindergarten students at St. Mary’s Elementary School in Annapolis, perform a tonsillectomy on Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster at AAMC’s Hands On Health, an annual two-day “show-and-tell” program that teaches youngsters what goes on in the hospital.

More than 500 kindergarten students from nine area schools took part in AAMC’s annual two-day Hands On Health event, designed to introduce children to the hospital setting. Students donned surgical masks and protective hairnets and had the chance to perform surgery on dolls depicting popular children’s characters. AAMC physicians and nurses also made presentations to the children.

The schools participating this year were: St. Mary’s Elementary, West Annapolis Elementary, Indian Creek Elementary, Belvedere Elementary, Meade Heights Elementary, Central Elementary, St. Martin’s Lutheran School, Weem’s Creek Nursery School and Kindergarten, and Asbury Community
