AAMC Opens the Health Sciences Pavilion

Hospital Announces Largest Campaign in 107–Year History

Health Sciences Pavilion

The seven-story, 240,000-square-foot Health Sciences Pavilion houses physician offi ces, outpatient services and the AAMC Health Sciences Institute.

The opening of the AAMC Health Sciences Pavilion(HSP)on July 1 is the next step in the medical center’s enduring commitment to grow with the population it serves.

The seven-story, 240,000-squarefoot HSP will house physician offices, outpatient services, and the AAMC Health Sciences Institute (HSI), a health care conferencing and telemedicine center.

“That AAMC is willing to make this investment says so much about its commitment to being in the forefront of health care for its patients.”

John Martin, M.D.
Co-Chair, Health Sciences Institute Committee

The crown jewel of the new facility, the 24,000-square-foot HSI, features a main conference room that can accommodate up to 400 or be sectioned into six conference rooms. The Institute also includes five classrooms, all with high definition projectors, and wireless Internet, and some with video-conferencing capabilities. One classroom will be connected to specific operating rooms from which AAMC surgeons can teach the latest surgical techniques to physicians across the globe. A 3,500-square-foot terrace offers picturesque views of the surrounding area.

“The Health Sciences Institute will be one of the brightest symbols of our institution,” said vascular surgeon John Martin, M.D., co-chair of the Health Sciences Institute Committee. “That AAMC is willing to make this investment says so much about its commitment to being in the forefront of health care for its patients. We’re not waiting for tomorrow. We’re doing it now.”

Just Announced:
Care Like no Other Campaign

Coinciding with opening the Health Sciences Pavilion, AAMC leadership unveiled the medical center’s $44 million Care Like no Other fundraising campaign, the largest and most ambitious fundraising effort in the medical center’s 107-year history.

Funding for AAMC’s expansion has been secured through bonds issued by the health system in early 2009 and through capital generated from hospital operations. Additional funds are being raised through the generous support of hospital trustees, medical staff, employees, individuals and businesses, and the community.

The Care Like no Other campaign supports the $424 million, campus- wide expansion. Lisa Hillman, chief development officer and senior vice president of the Health System, said, “The opening of this new facility offers an opportunity to honor the donors who have made our growth possible, while welcoming future donors who will make continued growth a reality—a true celebration of philanthropy.”
