Volunteering at AAMC

AAMC Auxilliary: Volunteering at AAMC

The Auxiliary was established in 1944 as a volunteer group to serve the hospital. Auxiliary volunteers are an integral part of AAMC’s mission of providing patient-centered, high quality health care services to our community. Auxilians have also been instrumental in raising funds for many hospital projects.

.If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer, please call the Auxiliary Office at (443) 481-5050 to register for an Information Session. The session is about 1 hour long and will include an opportunity for you to ask questions of Auxiliary representatives and learn more about the volunteer services of the Auxiliary at AAMC.

The Auxiliary has over 500 active volunteers. In 2003, these generous people gave more than 108,000 hours of time. We offer an opportunity to give others a helping hand and a chance to make new friends. Our dynamic volunteers help in more than 15 services throughout the hospital.

Volunteers contribute in customer service areas assisting patients and visitors with information, in patient care areas assisting staff and visiting with patients, in fundraising services and in our outreach clinic in downtown Annapolis.

Associate Volunteer Program

The Auxiliary’s Associate Volunteer Program is for those who cannot actively serve in the hospital but want to contribute to the work of the active volunteers. Through a small donation these Auxilians can stay in touch through the newsletter and attend social events. For further information, please call (443) 481-5055. You do not need to attend the Open House.

Sewing and Knitting Program

The Auxiliary also has a sewing and knitting program. Volunteers make small stuffed bears for children in the Emergency Department, turbans for oncology patients and mittens for newborns. Knitters make baby caps and knitters and crocheters make lap robes for our in-house patients. If you are interested in the sewing program, please call (443) 481-5050 for more information. You do not need to attend the Open House.

Volunteers at AAMC are asked to give one shift per week at a regular day and time. Accommodation is made for travel or other leave. The shifts are normally 9 am – 12:30 pm and 12:30 pm – 4 pm. There are limited opportunities for evening volunteer work. Volunteer assignments are based on the volunteer’s interest and schedule and the hospital’s needs.
