Barbara Jacobs, RN
Vice President, Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer
Barbara Jacobs, RN, joined AAMC as chief nursing officer in 2015. Barbara comes to AAMC from John Hopkins Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md. where she served as the chief nurse officer.
With almost 40 years of nursing experience, Barbara began her career in New Brunswick, N.J., where she quickly rose up the ranks from new nursing graduate to assistant director of nursing. She continued to develop her clinical skills as a staff nurse in hospitals in Camden, N.J. and Philadelphia, Pa. She held progressive leadership positions at George Washington University Hospital as a charge nurse and nursing supervisor, interim chief nurse officer, and the director of critical care. She is certified in gerontological and critical care nursing and has experience in cardiothoracic critical care.
As chief nursing officer, Barbara works with nursing staff and nurse leaders, physician and multidisciplinary team members, auxilians, and patient and family advisors to continue building on important nursing initiatives, patient satisfaction and wellbeing. She also leads the refinement and implementation of the nursing strategic plan.
Barbara received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York and a Master of Science in Nursing and Management from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.« Back to Executive Biographies
