AAMC is located on the Medical Park campus just off Jennifer Road, east of the Annapolis Mall. It is easily accessed from Route 50, Bestgate Road, Jennifer Road and Route 2.
AAMC is the third largest private sector employer in Anne Arundel County, with a workforce of more than 3,000 full and part-time employees. In addition, there are more than 800 members of the medical staff.
More than 5,000 babies are born each year at AAMC, ranking second in the state for the greatest number of births. The Level IIIb Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the only one in Anne Arundel County and cares for more than 500 critically ill infants annually. The Clatanoff Pavilion is home to the AAMC Women’s and Children’s Center and offers all private rooms in a peaceful, nurturing environment.
At the AAMC Geaton and JoAnn DeCesarsis Cancer Institute, patients find a world-class environment as well as a warm, highly personalized and caring environment and a compassionate team of caregivers sensitive to the emotional and physical aspects of cancer. Accredited by the American College of Surgeons, the DeCesaris Cancer Institute is committed to providing the latest tools in fighting cancer including robotic surgery, PET/CT, IMRT, and the Novalis and Novalis Tx stereotactic radiosurgery. The hospital has formed a strategic affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine to bring together a wide range of experts and clinical programs from both institutions to provide increased access to quality medical care for patients in the region.
More than 1,400 joint replacements are performed each year at the AAMC Joint Center. The program, including “Joint Camp” for recovery, has a world-class reputation as a model Joint Center with physicians from around the world coming to AAMC to learn from the Center’s clinical experts.
The AAMC Brain Center has the most advanced techniques and technology coupled with a multidisciplinary team of neurosurgeons, oncologists, neurologists, and radiation oncologists to treat disease and disorders of the brain.
The AAMC Spine Center is second in the state in the number of total spine surgeries, and its surgeons perform more spinal fusions than anywhere else in Maryland. Neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons often work in tandem to bring the expertise of both specialties to the operating room. For non-surgical treatment, these specialists, along with interventional radiologists and pain specialists provide the latest in technology for pain management.
BACKGROUND
AAMC was founded in 1902 as the Annapolis Emergency Hospital, has evolved into a regional medical center as part of Anne Arundel Health System, which also includes: Pathways (a non-profit inpatient/outpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility for adolescents and adults); Anne Arundel Diagnostics; Righttime Pediatrics; the askAAMC 24-hour health line; and three satellite locations, AAMC Health Services—Bowie, AAMC Health Services—Waugh Chapel and AAMC Health Services—Kent Island.
MEDICAL PARK CAMPUS
The Medical Park campus is located just off Route 50 near Annapolis, Maryland. A 330,000-sq.ft, six-story Hospital Pavilion opened December 2, 2001, including a state-of-the-art critical care unit as well as 12 surgical suites and a large Emergency Department with undercover ambulance access. On April 15, 2011 a new seven-story addition to the hospital was open, including an expanded Emergency room; a new pediatric Emergency Room and inpatient unit.; and eight new operating rooms.
A new 1600-space parking garage (A) was built to supplement the original 700-space garage (C).
The Hospital Pavilion joineds the Clatanoff Pavilion, home to the AAMC Women’s and Children’s Center and Wound Center; the Edwards Outpatient Surgery Pavilion; the Donner Pavilion, site of the AAMC Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute; and the Wayson Pavilion, a medical office building.
A medical office pavilion is located on the Medical Park campus. Named the Sajak Pavilion in recognition of major donors Lesly and Pat Sajak, this 150,000-sq. ft., six-story building, opened in 2001, is the site of Anne Arundel Diagnostics Imaging and physicians' offices and is served by its own adjacent parking garage (B).
Next to the Sajak Pavilion is the Health Sciences Pavilion, opened in July 2009. This 240,000 square-foot, seven-story building features the AAMC Breast Center, the Anne Arundel Diagnostics Imaging, Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the AAMC Comprehensive Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine, physician offices, and the Bayside Beacon gift shop. The 24,000 square-foot seventh floor is dedicated to the Doordan Institute, a center of learning with state-of-the-art audio visuals and communications functions. It is named after Martin L. "Chip" Doordan, Chief Executive Officer of Anne Arundel Health System, who retired in July 2011 after 39 years of leadership to the health system..
