Second Opinion Service

This service is to allow patients with or without a diagnosis of breast cancer to be seen by one of our Breast Center specialists, to give a second opinion on the plan of care that has been developed for the patient. We try to see these patients within 48 hours of their call, especially in patients who have been scheduled for surgery. Some reasons for obtaining a second opinion include:

• A less invasive treatment option is available
• A more aggresive treatment option is available
• Confirm there are no other treatment options
• Confirm no other imaging needs to be performed
• Confirm adequate and good quality imaging has been performed
• The pathology is not definitive
• The need for radiation is controversial
• The need for chemotherapy is controversial

To be seen in the Breast Center for a second opinion, we request that you bring your mammograms, pathology reports, and operative notes.
