Breast Cancer Treatment

If you are diagnosed with breast cancer, the staff helps navigate you and your family through the course of treatment. This includes consultations, education, referrals, pre-surgical care, diagnostic work-up and rehabilitation after surgery.

  • Second Opinion Service
Our physicians are available to provide second opinions for patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Surgery
AAMC's top-notch surgeons are trained in a variety of procedures. The Breast Center will help match you with the surgeon who is best suited to your needs.
  • Sentinel Node Biopsy
This technique accurately determines the spread of cancer cells into the lymph nodes, thus sparing most patients the difficulty of axillary dissection.
  • Chemotherapy
Some patients will need this form of therapy to help cure their disease.
  • Radiation
Radiation often follows surgery, especially patients who have the option to preserve their breast.
  • Lymphedema Center
After treatment for breast cancer, some women may develop lymphedema, which results in swelling in the arms. The Lymphedema Center helps women control the swelling through therapy and education.
  • Reconstructive and Plastic Surgery
Some patients may elect or need to have their breast removed. Plastic surgeons can help rebuild the breast through various methods, frequently immediately following surgical removal of the breast.

Rehabilitation

Breast Center counselors can help guide you to services that assist breast cancer survivors in their rehabilitation. Call the Breast Center at (443) 481-5300, or toll-free at 1 (877) 34-BREAST, and let us help you find the services you need.

Support Groups

Women can find comfort and wisdom through the help of others. SOS: Survivors Offering Support matches the new patient with a survivor who shares insights into her personal breast cancer experience, while providing information and emotional support to the new patient through the course of diagnosis and treatment. See our listings of support groups to find one for you.
