Message from Barry Meisenberg, M.D., Director of the AAMC DeCesaris Cancer Institute
The Breast Center and its experts continue to recommend that women 40 years or older undergo yearly screening mammography exams.
After reviewing the scientific data presented by the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force, we disagree with the assessment that women in their 40’s do not need screening mammography exams.
Although mammography is an imperfect tool, it is currently the best tool available to diagnose irregularities in the breast before such irregularities can progress into complex breast disease. Our team will continue to advocate for our patients to obtain the comprehensive and quality care they need to decrease the chances dying from developing breast cancers.
To better understand the complex issues surrounding the recent U.S. Preventative Services Task Force recommendations, we have made available a public commentary from the director of the AAMC DeCesaris Cancer Institute, Barry Meisenberg, M.D.
