AAMC Vision 2010 Campus Expansion
Vision 2010/FAQ

Who: Anne Arundel Health System (www.aahs.org)

What: Anne Arundel Health System is well underway with the implementation of the AAMC Vision 2010 strategic plan, which includes expanded clinical services, the addition of advanced technology, and an expansion of its medical staff and specialty options.  This major expansion will allow AAMC to continue its growth as a destination health system, caring for patients from throughout the region.

Highlights include:

  1. A new patient tower adding 50 new private patient rooms, eight new operating rooms and an expanded emergency room with a dedicated pediatric emergency unit.
  2. A new AAMC Ambulatory Services Pavilion, housing physician offices, outpatient services and the Health Sciences Institute.
  3. A new pedestrian covered walkway across Medical Parkway connecting the AAMC East and AAMC West campus.
  4. Four new parking garages, for a total of more than 4,000+ parking spaces.
  5. Clinical expansions of AAMC’s centers of excellence guided by medical experts in women’s and children’s services, oncologic care, joint, brain, and spine care, heart and vascular services, and breast surgery.

This facilities and service expansion will provide much needed clinical and support space to help meet the needs of patients from throughout the region.

When:  The Vision 2010 strategic plan was adopted in December 2004 and will be completed in three phases.  In phase 1, select services were expanded and moved to new locations on the hospital’s campus in anticipation of pending construction.

The AAMC Neonatal Intensive Care Unit was expanded to a 20-private room space
on the second floor of the AAMC Clatanoff Pavilion and a women’s surgical unit was constructed on the first floor of the same facility.  An observation unit was added near the emergency department for patients needing observation for up to 23 hours.   Phase 1 was completed in 2007.

In phase 2, AAMC expanded the hospital’s parking options and began construction of the Ambulatory Services Pavilion and its adjoining parking garage.

In phase 3, AAMC began construction on its new patient tower that will add 50 additional private inpatient rooms and eight operating rooms.  A new parking garage will be constructed and the AAMC emergency room will be expanded to include a dedicated pediatric emergency room.  A new pediatric unit will also be added adjacent to the new pediatric emergency room.
