Specialized Care for Young Families
“We have had unbelievably wonderful experiences at AAMC with our young family. It feels great to be able to give to AAMC because it is an investment in my family and my neighbors. We are proud to help make this hospital even better and more advanced to care for our community.”
- Jeff and Nicole Griffith, Partner; Toal, Griffith & Ayers
Jeff and Nicole Griffith’s positive experiences at AAMC are shared by many parents in our community. AAMC’s comprehensive healthcare services for infants, children and expectant families in our region, including the Pediatric Emergency Department and Inpatient Unit, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Labor and Delivery Department, have well-earned reputations for excellence. Demand for these services continues to rise as the pediatric program draws children and families not only from the counties around Annapolis, but also from the suburbs of Washington, DC, Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Delaware.
Because of the increased demand for pediatric services, AAMC has expanded its programs for children and their families. Through the work of the Pediatric Philanthropy Council we are generating support for these important initiatives to provide vital care to the youngest among us. They include:
- The Child Life Department – Certified child life specialists work with children and their families to decrease stress and anxiety for our youngest patients using play therapy, coping strategies and child-friendly language and explanations.
- The Pediatric Nurse Navigation Program – pediatric nurse navigators help ensure that patients families have the proper information and resources needed to best care for their children. They provide education about diagnoses, schedule follow up appointments, identify and provide resources for families, and act as a liaison between physicians, nurses, patients, and families.
- The NICU Nurse Navigation Program – NICU nurse navigators provide support and education to families transitioning out of the NICU.
