As the third busiest cardiac program in the state of Maryland, the Heart Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center now sees more patients and saves more lives than ever before. Here are just a few of the reasons why we're a leading choice in heart care.
The Heart Institute is a recipient of the Gold Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology, a national recognition given only to hospitals that provide the highest quality of care to heart attack patients.
Our emergency heart attack program for treating STEMI (ST segment elevation myocardial infarction) patients-patients experiecing the most deadly type of heart attack-has saved more than 1,000 lives since 2002. Through a partnership with local EMS (emergency medical services), the program has dramatically reduced treatment times for cardiac catheterization to less than one hour from the patient's arrival.
Anne Arundel Medical Center has been designated a Certified Intervention Center (CIC) by the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medicine Services Systems. This means we are the area's preferred hospital for heart attack care and EMS must bypass closer hospitals that do not have CIC designation.
We have also been named an accredited Chest Pain Center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and an accredited Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission.
