In our pre-op classes, you will learn in detail the mechanics of the joint and how they relate to your procedure. A patient guidebook lets you know what to do six weeks before surgery, what to expect during your stay in the hospital, and how to care for yourself afterward. Classes for you and your family take place two weeks before surgery.
Discharge planning is taken care of in advance, and includes efforts, when necessary, to ensure a safe home environment.
If you choose The AAMC Center for Joint Replacement, you will become part of what patients and their families have fondly come to call “Joint Camp.” The name comes in part from the sense many patients feel of shared experiences with fellow patients.
Guided and assisted by your coordinator, you and your family will find that you are not bystanders; you are participants and team members with a common goal. The goal is getting your quality of life back, and it carries through the weeks leading up to your surgery, during your short stay here, and into the days and months following.
