This year, AAMC welcomed Executive Vice President of Integrated Care Delivery and Chief Operating Officer Maulik Joshi, DrPH. This is a new, unique position that will help us continue to shape the future of healthcare delivery both at AAMC and in Maryland. “Maulik brings diverse and complementary skills, national insights on quality improvement, creativity and a fresh perspective,” says AAMC President and CEO Victoria W. Bayless. Here’s what Maulik has to say about his next-generation COO role and the future of healthcare delivery.
What does the future hold for AAMC?
MJ: AAMC is a terrific place to receive care. The future for us is how we integrate and coordinate that care. We want to make sure we are collaborating by sharing information and working toward common health goals. We want your healthcare journey to be seamless so that you always get the highest level of care and service.
What is your perspective on the healthcare industry today?
MJ: Healthcare, like many industries, is changing rapidly. Think about newspapers, taxi services, cameras and video rentals. These industries have gone through big changes. Healthcare is no different. It’s our job to stay in front of all these changes. That’s why we continue to find new ways to make care more coordinated, accessible and convenient. We’re focused on doing this work really well today — and we are continuously improving what we do to make healthcare better tomorrow.
How is AAMC tackling population health?
MJ: Traditionally, healthcare has focused on the individual, while population health focuses on the community. These areas are merging to become one. At AAMC, we want to make sure you get the best individualized care from your doctor. At the same time, we have the opportunity to improve the health of the whole community. That’s why we promote wellness and healthy lifestyles, and offer things like fitness classes, nutrition counseling and resources to quit smoking. Our focus not only is on caring for you when you’re sick, but also on keeping you well.
