ANNAPOLIS, MD. (Feb. 6, 2004) – Paul J. Vitale, Pharm. D, director of Anne Arundel Medical Center’s Pharmacy Services, was recently re-certified as a Fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists. An ASCP Fellowship is a five-year certification bestowed upon pharmacists who meet the highest standards in Senior Care Pharmacy and have demonstrated an extraordinary level of service and dedication in professional practice activities.
In order to become a Fellow of the Society, a pharmacist must fulfill rigorous criteria established by the ASCP Board of Directors. A Fellow must demonstrate dedication and achievement in professional activities, educational activities, professional innovation, advocacy and civic activities. An ASCP Fellow goes above and beyond the traditional pharmacy practice by distinguishing themselves through exemplary service and important contributions to the practice of senior care pharmacy and to society.
The ASCP is the international professional association that provides leadership, education, advocacy and resources to advance the practice of senior care pharmacy. Consultant pharmacists specializing in senior care pharmacy practice are essential participants in the health care system, recognized and valued for the practice of pharmaceutical care for the senior population and people with chronic illness. In their role as medication therapy experts, consultant pharmacists take responsibility for their patients’ medication-related needs; ensure that their patients’ medications are the most appropriate, the most effective, the safest possible, and are used correctly; and identify, resolve, and prevent medication-related problems that may interfere with the goals of therapy. ASCP’s 7,000 members manage and improve drug therapy thereby improving the quality of life of geriatric patients.
Dr. Vitale has been an employee of AAMC for 23 years and is also Business Manager for YourScan, a subsidiary of Anne Arundel Health System which offers full-body CT scanning.
