With more than 25 years of strategic planning, marketing, and operations in the health care industry, Aburn comes to AAHS from MedStar Health in Columbia, Md., where she held senior leadership roles for 14 years. Most recently, she was vice president of strategic planning and business development for MedStar’s Washington region and of Montgomery General Hospital in Olney.
At AAHS, she will oversee business development for key service lines, including the AAMC Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute, Women’s and Children’s Services, Heart and Vascular Institute, the Musculoskeletal Institute, surgery, and medicine. She also will coordinate planning and decision support, marketing and public relations, and community wellness and outreach.
Prior to the Washington regional role, Aburn was on the executive team at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore for 10 years, the first five as vice president of cardiovascular services and then as vice president of strategic planning and business development. She developed Union Memorial’s heart program, working with a team of physicians, clinical staff and senior executives. She also was instrumental in the development of the hospital’s award-winning ICARE customer service program.
In the mid-1990s, Aburn was director of service line planning for Helix Health, MedStar’s predecessor. She previously worked at Howard County General Hospital and held roles as the director of planning, marketing, and psychiatric service line management.
Aburn began her health care management career in health care consulting with Ernst & Young, where she worked on hospital feasibility studies, strategic plans and market assessments in the southeast region.
Born in Boston, Aburn earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Boston University. She has served on the board of the American Heart Association Board in Baltimore.
