“Leaning” the Medical Library

by medstaff on August 22, 2012

As part of Anne Arundel Health System’s Lean transformation, we are focused on creating more value for our customers while using fewer resources.

AAMC’s medical library, operated by Librarian Joyce Miller, is a highly valued resource to our medical staff. With that said the physical space, currently located in the Clatanoff Pavilion, is underutilized, with the vast majority of users requesting journal articles and information electronically instead of hard copy. Therefore, the stacks in the library will be reduced to only critical volumes in order to maintain our participation in the interlibrary loan program. This space will be repurposed for the Performance Improvement department.

This change to the physical space does not decrease the medical library’s service level. All resources continue to be available to the medical staff. Electronic requests may be made online here. In addition, Joyce is available by phone at 443-481-4877 or in person in the medical staff lounge, located on the first floor of Hospital Pavilion South.
