In the News: Blueberries, Strawberries and Onions can lower risk of heart attacks in women. “High anthocyanin intake is associated with a reduced risk of Myocardial Infarction in young and middle-aged women”

This article (Circulation, Jan 15th) has been all over the news within the past day or two.  It concludes that “a high intake of anthocyanins may reduce MI risk in predominantly young women.  Intervention trials are needed to further examine the health impact of increasing intakes of commonly consumed anthocyanin-rich foods”, among which are strawberries, blueberries and onions.  (click here to read full-text)
