In the news: Primary prevention of cardiovascular disease with a Mediterranean diet

by jmiller on February 26, 2013

The findings in this article (an early release) published  in theNew England Journal of Medicine),were reported  before the prevention trial even concluded because the results were so dramatic.  The article concludes: among persons at high cardiovascular risk, a Medierranean diet supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil or nuts reduced the incidence of major cardiovascular events.  The risk of stroke was reduced significantly in the two Mediterranean diet groups.  (The news media stated that it was more effective than statins, but after reading the article, I did not specifically find that information)  Click here to read full-text.
