The findings in this article (an early release) published in theNew England Journal of Medicine),were reported before the prevention trial even concluded because the results were so dramatic. The article concludes: among persons at high cardiovascular risk, a Medierranean diet supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil or nuts reduced the incidence of major cardiovascular events. The risk of stroke was reduced significantly in the two Mediterranean diet groups.
