Laboratory Testing Update – Removal of CK and CKMB from the Cardiac Order Sets

by jhopp on February 27, 2013

Creatine Kinase (CK) and Creatine Kinase-MB (CKMB) are no longer included in many of the current Epic order sets that include cardiac enzymes. Evidence supports this change and many large centers such as the Mayo Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospital have already moved in this direction due to the enhanced sensitivity and specificity of the troponin levels. The CK and CKMB will continue to be made available to be used at the physician’s discretion.  Routine CK-MB screening is still required the following day after CPort E interventions. Any questions regarding this change may be directed to Kelley Sullivan, MD. Click here for the research.
