Laboratory Testing Updates

by Medical Staff Office on July 26, 2013

Urine toxicology screen changes
Methadone testing is now performed as part of the order for “Drug Screen Comprehensive Urine” (toxicology). There are no changes to the ordering of this test. Methadone is a synthetic opioid that will produce a positive result at a concentration of 300 ng/ml and higher. Our methadone method provides only a screening test result to be used for medical purposes.

Microbiology collection requirement changes
All AFB and fungal culture testing are now performed at our reference laboratory. For optimal organism recovery and results turnaround times, separate pieces of tissue should be collected for each culture type (i.e. bacterial, fungal, and AFB) prior to submitting to the laboratory. Swabs are not recommended. For questions, please contact Microbiology at x4232.
