LIVESTRONG Award Brings Cancer Support Program to AAMC

by kimbra on June 26, 2012

The DeCesaris Cancer Institute at Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) has been named a LIVESTRONG® Community Impact Project Finalist and award recipient. The award will support the development of the Pillars4Life program, a patient/caregiver support program that has been proven to enhance quality-of-life for cancer patients.

More than 200 qualified hospitals, cancer centers, university students and community organizations in eight regions across the United States were selected to participate in an online voting campaign. Over a two-week period, more than 450,000 votes were cast and AAMC’s DeCesaris Cancer Institute was among the finalists.

The LIVESTRONG Community Impact Project was created by the Lance Armstrong Foundation, to bring replicable, evidence-based cancer support programs to communities across the United States. The Pillars4Life program allows hospitals and their social workers to more efficiently triage and attend to the psychosocial needs of a much greater number of patients.
