(June 20, 2013)—On June 6, Maura Callanan of Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) was presented the TWIN (Tribute to Women in Industry) award from the Annapolis/Anne Arundel County YWCA at a ceremony held at the Westin Annapolis Hotel. The TWIN award is presented to women who have made significant contributions to industry in leadership positions.
Callanan joined AAMC in 2007 as the executive director of Surgery and the Women’s and Children’s Center. Callanan provides strategic planning and leads growth initiatives for all pediatric, women’s and surgical programs, including AAMC’s birth program, the second busiest in the state.
A resident of Severna Park, Callanan was chosen for the honor for her tireless efforts to help build and expand healthcare services to support the needs of women and children of all ages, ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. She has also worked to improve access to care for women and children throughout the region and has led initiatives to build new surgical programs for the residents of the community. She led AAMC’s United Way Campaign, for which she received the United Way Coordinator of the Year award, and she participates in a number of civic activities.
