(November 8, 2012)—On October 8, representatives from Baltimore Gas & Electric’s (BGE’s) Smart Energy Savers Program® presented a check for $118,664 to Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) for participation in the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program. The incentives were received for the work the hospital did to improve the facility’s energy efficiency.

AAMC received the incentives after installing two new energy-efficient chillers, which supply cool water to air handlers, allowing the system to cool and heat buildings more efficiently. “At AAMC, we take great pride in making sure our buildings and equipment are environmentally friendly,” said Jennifer Harrington, vice president of Clinical and Support Services for AAMC. “We’re honored to be recognized by BGE for our efforts.”

“The BGE Smart Energy Savers Program is committed to providing energy-efficient solutions for many different types of Maryland businesses, both small and large,” said Bill Wolf, manager, Industrial and Commercial Conservation Programs for BGE. “For health care institutions like Anne Arundel Medical Center that provide crucial services to the community, the savings the program provides can be especially important. Every dollar they save on their facilities’ operations is another dollar that can be reinvested into their organization, employees and patients.”

AAMC has been an industry leader in using green technology. The hospital currently has the only Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified Gold patient care tower in Maryland. In 2011, the hospital was awarded two “Maryland Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (MH2E) Trailblazer Awards” for waste reduction and sustainability initiatives. Employees are also encouraged to buy locally grown produce at farmers markets, which are held weekly during the summer on the Medical Park campus in Annapolis.
