Understanding Core Measures

How AAMC people, plus feedback from patients, drive quality care

Nothing takes the place of person-to-person communication. A network of people and groups at AAMC is engaged in a range of interrelated forums and communication links that constantly examine and reexamine every aspect of quality.

As a patient, these ongoing initiatives are your assurance of a total and continuous focus on quality that reaches into every aspect of care at AAMC.

People involved in the quality process:

Patient Advocates

Patient Advocates act on behalf of patients to assist in a variety of circumstances. They work closely with patients, family members and the care team, sometimes in difficult situations, to ensure a high level of customer service. To learn more, see the Patient Advocacy program.

>Speak Up Program

Taking an active part in your care as a patient is a key element of quality care. The Speak Up Program at AAMC is aimed at encouraging patients to ask questions and communicate with all members of your care team. See more about the Speak Up Program.

Quality Council

The Quality Council is a once-a-month gathering of physicians, nurses, administrators and healthcare professionals from throughout AAMC. In a roundtable setting attendees share information and discuss issues related to quality. Performance measures and standards are reviewed and updated. The Quality Council reports directly to the Board of Trustees and a member of the Board of Trustees has direct oversight responsibility for the Quality Council.

Safety Committee

In addition to its once-a-month meeting, The Safety Committee is responsible for keeping safety in the forefront of every AAMC staffer’s awareness in everything they do. The Safety Committee develops training programs and other communications tools designed to make the focus on quality and safety a constant, ingrained presence in every corner of AAMC.

Unit Safety Liaisons

Unit Safety Liaisons are the links between the safety focus in their individual unit and the overall quality and safety architecture at AAMC. Just as the Safety Committee creates a continuous, ever-present focus on quality and safety hospital-wide, Unit Safety Liaisons are responsible for the same single-minded concentration on safety within their respective units.

Leadership Rounds

Leadership rounds are precisely what the name implies: a tour of the units throughout AAMC by members of the leadership team. As the team members move from unit to unit, they pay close attention to the physical environment and talk with the staff in each location. Leaders discuss concerns that may arise and refer those matters to unit directors. Members of the team also review pending issues from previous visits to ensure that they have been addressed and resolved. By listening closely to staff, AAMC leadership ensures that attention to every detail is addressed.
