AAMC Institute for Robotic Surgery
Anne Arundel Medical Center is one of only a few sites in the country to offer numerous and varied surgeries using the da Vinci robotic system, which combines computer and robotic technologies with surgeon skill. This state-of-the-art robotic platform enables surgeons to perform even the most delicate and complex procedures through very small incisions with exacting precision. At AAMC, we offer robotic surgery for prostrate and urologic surgeries, gynecologic surgeries, general surgeries and surgical oncology.

How it Works
AAMC surgeons “drive” tiny robotic instruments by operating controls while seated at a console and viewing three-dimensional magnified images of the surgical field. The surgeon’s movements or “instructions” are immediately translated for the robot and executed in real time, allowing the instruments to perform extremely precise movements in very small spaces. This allows surgeons to operate with finite dexterity, better visualization and improved control using a minimally invasive approach.

Benefits of Robotic Surgery
For patients, benefits may include:

  • Significantly less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Less scarring
  • Shorter hospital stays and recovery time
  • A faster return to normal daily activities
  • And in many cases, better clinical outcomes
