Special DeliveryAnne Arundel Medical Center's Family-Centered Childbirth Program
AAMC brings the best and most comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care to area women at the Rebecca M. Clatanoff Pavilion at the Medical Park campus. As the only hospital in Anne Arundel County that provides full maternity services, AAMC provides every expectant mother with personal perinatal care--before, during and after her baby is born.
A new beginning -- that's what AAMC's comprehensive maternity program is all about. Our Special Delivery program offers classes on nutrition, life after baby, infant care and breast-feeding. Classes are offered for all members of an expectant family at a variety of times and locations. Childbirth and parenting classes also are available for a small fee. Siblings and grandparents are invited on pre-birth tours of the Clatanoff Pavilion.
In the Clatanoff Pavilion, patients enjoy the soft lighting and homelike amenities of the luxurious private birthing suites equipped with the latest technological devices. Fathers and family members are welcome. Physicians, certified nurse midwives and maternity nurses appreciate the central fetal monitoring system that helps ensure the safety of mom and baby during labor and delivery. To help new moms have a successful breast-feeding experience, lactation consultants provide education and support. Specially trained nurses and physicians provide 24-hour attention for premature and critically ill babies in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit supervised by a noted neonatologist. Charlotte Knight, born at AAMC, turned one-year-old in June, 2006 "Last month, our daughter Charlotte turned one year old. My wife, Catherine, and I took time to reflect back upon her birth and our feelings of excitement as first time parents. In particular, we recalled our overwhelmingly positive experience with Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC), where Charlotte was born. Given the fact that many do not take the time to contact care providers unless they have some kind of complaint or negative feedback, we wanted to take the time to write to you and share some of our thoughts and impressions about the excellent services offered by your hospital staff before, during, and after Charlotte’s birth. From start to finish, we received excellent care and attention. Before Charlotte was born, we took a great prenatal education class as well as an excellent breastfeeding course at AAMC, and they both were of great help in preparing us to be parents. Charlotte was delivered by Dr. Scott Hankinson, with great assistance from the delivery nurses. Soon after delivery, we were whisked upstairs to the nursery floor, and couldn’t believe how nice our accommodations were. Looking back, we jokingly tell friends that it was like staying at a very nice hotel. We felt at home at your hospital, and the nurses on staff made us feel calm and comfortable at a time when we were just learning to be parents. Two nurses in particular stand out in our memories as wonderfully helpful individuals: Michelle on the labor and delivery floor and Bonnie on the nursery floor. The friendliness and professionalism of your nurse staff combined with the quality of your facilities made our time at AAMC very comfortable and enjoyable. We can’t thank you and your staff enough for the very positive and wonderful experience we had at your hospital, and when the time comes, we look forward to having our next child at AAMC."
