If you have been struggling with obesity and are concerned about your health, it may be time to consider weight loss surgery at AAMC. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommends that candidates considered for bariatric surgery meet the following criteria:
Patients must attend a bariatric informational seminar where they will be given an overview of the process. At the initial office consult, patients will learn about the medical clearances necessary in order to be scheduled for surgery; among those are a cardiac evaluation, a sleep study and a psychological screening. These clearances are a mandatory component of the program in order to ensure the health and safety of the patient.
Candidates for bariatric surgery will also go through psychological screening to ensure they are mentally prepared for the many changes that will come after surgery.
