    Provider Descriptions:

    • Counselor: Our counselors are licensed professional, marriage and family therapists. We also have counselors that focus on addiction. They help people with a variety of mental health and substance abuse conditions. Counselors use talk therapy to help people cope with their conditions. They do not prescribe medication.
    • Psychiatrist (M.D. or D.O.): A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in mental health, including substance abuse disorders. If needed, they can prescribe medication and other medical treatment.
    • Psychologist (Ph.D. or Pys.D.): Most psychologists have a doctoral degree (either a Ph.D. or Pys.D.). They help people manage different life concerns and mental health problems. Psychologists are trained to give and interpret tests that tell more about the way a person thinks, feels and behaves. They often use talk therapy to help people improve their lives. Usually, psychologists do not prescribe medication.
    • Psychiatric Nurse (APRN, NP or CNS): An Advanced Practiced Registered Nurse (APRN) is psychiatric nurse who specializes in mental health. An APRN has at least a master’s degree. These nurses may be clinical specialists (CNS) or nurse practitioners (NP). They are trained to diagnose and treat adults and children, either alone or as a family. APRNs can prescribe medicine, if needed.
    • Social Worker: (M.S., M.S.W., L.C.S.W.): Our social workers have their master’s degree and are licensed clinical social workers. Social workers help people with problems they’re facing. They teach skills for patients to rely on to improve their lives. A social worker does not prescribe medication.
