    It’s important to stay hydrated before and after surgery. Aim for drinking at least 64 ounces of water or other sugar-free beverages every day. Keep in mind that you should follow the 30/30 rule: Do not drink 30 minutes before or after meals to help you feel more comfortable and able to eat.

    Before surgery, try to wean yourself from carbonated and caffeinated beverages. Carbonation can cause cramping and bloating, and caffeine can cause dehydration and stomach irritation. Here are some options:
