Surgery Residency Program

Mission

The aim of the surgery program at AAMC is: 

  • To graduate competent, board-eligible surgeons who are qualified for competitive fellowships, if desired. 

  • To integrate our residents into a collaborative team-based learning environment. 

  • To promote quality improvement and patient safety in our residency program to ensure compassionate, high-value care to our community. 

Graduate Medical Education (GME): Surgery Residency Program at Anne Arundel Medical Center

Surgery Residency Program Overview

To ensure you receive a complete and balanced experience, we have developed a comprehensive educational program focused around clinical care, technical skills and quality improvement. You will complete weekly simulation training in our state-of-the-art simulation center, a 5,500-square-foot center dedicated to the advancement and practice of medicine. This is a typical schedule for Surgery residents by PGY-level.

As a Surgery resident, you will rotate with our teaching affiliates in these areas:

  • Basic science
  • Morbidity and mortality
  • Grand rounds
  • Quality improvement

  • Simulation
  • Journal club

We also encourage you to participate in specialty conferences that will be offered during clinical rotations.

Most of your surgical rotations will occur at AAMC. You can take advantage of select rotations with our teaching affiliates: 

  • Pediatric Surgery: Johns Hopkins Hospital Children’s Center 

  • Transplant: The Johns Hopkins Hospital 

  • Trauma: University of Maryland Medical Center’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center 

All simulation training will occur at our on-site simulation center. 

2023 Main Residency Match:

  • Interview invitations will be released between October 26th and November 1st
  • 48 hour response time to interview invitation
  • Seven (7) day cancellation window prior to interview date
  • All interviews and resident receptions/open houses will be virtual

 

All PGY-1 applicants must apply through the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The NRMP program code is 1942440C0.
